As I sat in the auditorium listening to the names being announced on who won, Korean entry, high school, adult, I was only hoping that I could also take home a victory in first place.

When the English entries for high school were being announced, I was ecstatic to discover that I did win first place and that my passion for the Dokdo Island was appraised by the community.
I care deeply about Dokdo Island so the essay competition was more of a fun activity than a response prompt.
I’ve learned a lot about Korea and Japan’s long history together and their various conflicts when drafting my writing. I’m glad that I could participate in such a great event that has the most compassionate and determined people on this planet!
