I first heard about the Dokdo essay contest in Professor Moonsu Han’s microeconomics class. Professor Moon assigned the essay as extra credit for the course.
I proceeded to write the essay not knowing much of what it entailed.
When I was informed by Moon via email that I was one of the top contenders for the contest, I was overjoyed. Upon arriving at the ceremony, I was curious to understand what this was all about.
Warmly, I was welcomed by the contest administrators who were very alacritous to hear about my background and upbringing. As the ceremony progressed, I ascertained more and more about the fascinating Korean culture. Furthermore, the Korean people displayed their patriotism through the love they have of Dokdo Island.

Also, I discovered how much the island truly means to the ROK as well as it’s historical significance. Increasingly, I learned so much about the Korean people and their pride for country in those couple infinitesimal hours which flew by like a day at the beach. As the ceremony concluded, I was encouraged many times by the contest organizers to enter competition again next year.

I cannot wait to inform my friends and family of all the knowledge of Korea that I gained from the experience. I am honored to receive second place in the Dokdo essay contest.
